Ok so we were all following my advances on the coffee shop guy and the guy from the dollar store. But for what ever reason (my lack of relationship skills) they never went anywhere. Actually, I have yet to even see either of them again. Even though I have been to the coffee shop and the dollar store on multiple occasions. My lack of activity in the romance world (or friendship for that matter,) led me to join a couple of dating sites. I even started to talk to someone from the same town as me, but he turned out a dud as well. Just as I was giving up hope yet again I stumbled upon an email from a certain someone I met online.
The first night we facebook stalked each other and exchanged a few emails. But nothing really came up. Then Late the next night I was sitting on the couch watching late night television and my phone vibrated. He emailed me on facebook. We spent the next few hours asking every question we could think of. The questions lasted until 3am and I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. I told him I was falling asleep and he said ok one more question from both of us and we will stop. I said ok and asked some stupid question and then he used his last question to ask for my number. I smiled because I should have thought of that.
We spent the entire next day texting and had a three hour conversation that afternoon. We decided we couldn't wait any longer. The text day was his day off and he had to meet me. He lives an 1 and a half away so it would be a drive, but he said it was worth.
I told my grandma our plan and she freaked out. All the crime shows we watched began flashing across her mind with all the possibilities of meeting some murderer of rapest on line. She wasn't going to let me out of the house unless we all went. I told him about all her fears and he was perfectly ok with it and he understood entirely. This meeting was beginning to look too good to be true.
We set up to meet up at the local starbucks. Mostly so we would have a way out if he gave us a bad feeling, but partly so they could let us be alone without having to stay for lunch. I spent that entire night freaking out. I spent two hours in the shower scrubbing till my skin was raw. I blow dried my hair and lotioned up before destroying my room to find the perfect out fit.
I woke up the next morning extra early knowing I would want to take extra time fixing my hair and doing my make up just right. My stomach was in knots the whole morning and I think my heart skipped every other beat. Finally when I looked in the mirror with a satisfied smile, we headed out the door.
I was driving which was a perfect distraction from the butterflies dancing in my stomach. We hit every green light all the way through town and just when I thought all the signs were pointing to a great day. Red and Blue lights were flashing in front of us pulling over my uncle Jason who was driving the car in front of us. We pulled over and watched from one of the near by parking lots as the cop got off his bike and went to his window. I used this time to check my phone hoping to be the there first I was disappointing to see he was already there! A half an hour early!
It didn't take long for the cop to get what he needed and get back on the road. We pulled back in behind him and found a spot in the near by Starbucks. By heart started beating rapidly and I second guessed even getting out of the car.
Finally I got the courage and with a shaky hand I reached down and found the handle. I stepped out and strained my clothes and checked my hair in the mirror. I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding and headed toward the door. I only saw a few pictures on Facebook and I wasn't for sure exactly what I was looking for but as we opened the door and stepped inside I noticed him out of the corner of my eye. His pictures did not do him justice!
Not sure of what to do in this situation I texted him and said I think I am looking at you lol and I watched as he checked his phone. He looked up and caught my eye and got the first glance at the smile that I would come to love. It quickly become comfortable (A nervous sort of comfort.) He introduced himself to my family, this being the first of many times he would leave me speechless. He fit right in with my family and we all laughed and shared stories like we had known each other forever. Felling confident he wasn't an axe murderer they got up to leave us to the rest of our day.
We sat there for a while longer before deciding to go walk around the mall, and then we got lost track of a few hours at the cafe in Barnes and Noble. We caught some lunch at the apple bees near by miss placing a couple more hours. As the hours dwindled away I begin to see him visibly relax, getting to catch a few more of those heart stopping smiles. We went and caught a movie and ended the night talking under the stars. I felt like I was talking to my best friend that I had known for years. We couldn't get enough and barely broke away to go our separate ways. Finally I was back on my way to the house the windows down, music blaring, and colors looking just a little bit brighter. I felt my phone vibrate at my hip and I answered it hearing his voice fill my ears again. He was calling me to tell me to tell me he had broken down on the side of the interstate. I pulled it around and finally pulled my car behind his. We decided it was too late into the night to really do anything so I dropped him off at a hotel near the house.
At first we thought of this as a horrible ending to a perfect day but then we realized it would just mean we would spend one more day together. And we did just that. It was late in the day when we finally got the car loaded on the trailer he got from U-haul and I saw him off.
We were only a part a day when we couldn't take it anymore and I took the drive to see him for a day. Spending yet another day falling for that smile that makes so few appearances. I can't wait to see where this goes.
